Meeting in Brooksville on Jan. 20
The next general meeting of the Mid-Florida Golden Retriever Club will be on Saturday, January 20, at the Brooksville show and will be held after Goldens are shown. An estimated time will be sent early that week when the judging schedule is announced.
Barn Hunt Fun Day
The club is looking to do a Barn Hunt Fun Day to give members an introduction to the growing dog sport of Barn Hunt. The day would include going over the rules, intro to a rat and an actual hunt for each dog in attendance, all conducted by a Barn Hunt specialist. We have a tentative date of Saturday, March 3, at a location near Ocala, and we will be limited to 20 dogs taken on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost would be $15 per dog for club members, with the club picking up the rest of the tab. Before we commit to the day, we want to make sure there is enough interest within the club. If this is an activity you’d be interested in, please email club secretary Andy Hall at andyhall58@hotmail.com.
CCA and Heart/Eye Clinic
Spots are still available for the MFGRC’s CCA and heart/eye clinic that will be held on Saturday, March 31, in Ocala, Fla. People interested in either must pre-register – full details are on the MFGRC website at https://mfgrc.org/mfgrc-hold-cca-cardiac-eye-clinic-march-31-2018/.
Photos from December Hunt Test
MFGRC members who competed in the recent Hunt Test are able to order photos from the event from photographer Kim Langevin at a discount until Jan. 11. When ordering, members should use the code SANTA2017 for 25 percent off of the order. The selection can be seen at https://crystalcreekdesigns.smugmug.com/CFHRC-MFCRC-Dec-Hunt-Test-2017
Last Call for New Title Rosettes
All members of the MFGRC who earned new titles for their dogs during calendar year 2017 are eligible to receive a new title rosette from the club. Eligible members should email the full name of the dog and what the title earned was to Ann Rowe, who will order the rosettes later this year and make them available for pickup early next year. Ann’s email address is magikgldn1@aol.com. Deadline for submissions is December 31, 2017.
Opportunity for Young Exhibitors
As part of its show in Brooksville on Jan. 21, the Manatee Kennel Club has launched an initiative to grow youth interest and participation in dog sports with a free Junior Showcase including Junior Showmanship, Obedience and Rally. The entry deadline of Jan. 3 is approaching quickly. Entries can be made at infodog.com and more information is available from Judy Seltrecht at jseltrecht@tampabay.rr.com or via phone 813-843-5145.
Membership Renewals
If not already done, it’s time to renew membership in the MFGRC for 2018. Membership fees remain the same: $25 for individual, family or associate memberships. Please indicate category, make check payable to MFGRC and mail to:

People who became club members in October, November and December do not have to renew for 2018; their membership will carry over. Also, please note that attending meetings is not a membership requirement – club members are always welcomed at meetings but no one is going to be excluded from membership for not being able to attend meetings.
