A Note of Thanks

The Mid-Florida Golden Retriever Club held its annual Obedience and Rally Trial Aug. 11-12 at the Obedience Club of Daytona and as trial chairman, I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the club members and others who contributed to the success of the event.

First of all, we couldn’t do it without the help and dedication of Ralph and Maria Orlando, who in addition to being members of the MFGRC are also very active and strong members of the OCOD. Ralph set up the building and kept things running smoothly with it all weekend, while Maria’s skills as a photographer were on display as she was everywhere and posted about 150 images from the trial on Facebook. Both also pitched in whenever needed and took care of many details and little things that are so important during a trial.

New Contest for 2020 GRCA National! Win a Gift Card!

Hey there all of you creative geniuses. As you know, the Mid-Florida Golden Retriever Club has been awarded the 2020 GRCA National Specialty. If you have attended a National you know that there is always a theme. If you haven’t attended a National, see the images of previous Specialty themes on catalogs to get those creative ideas going.

MFGRC needs a theme and a logo to give a visual to the theme. Don’t worry, you don’t need to be an artist. MFGRC will take care of that part. Just think of a theme and sketch out the logo (stick dogs are allowed) and MFGRC take it from there.

MFGRC hosted the 2002 National and the theme was Golden Reflections. The logo incorporated that idea but also incorporated everything that is Florida.

MFGRC Agility Fun Day and General Meeting Oct. 13

The Mid-Florida Golden Retriever Club will hold an Agility Fun Day and general meeting on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Best Paw Forward training center in Osteen, Fla.

The event will give members and their Goldens the opportunity to try the sport of Agility in a fun, no-pressure atmosphere. P.J. Lacette, one of the founders of the MFGRC and a lifetime member, will host the event and provide training.

Agility training will be from 9-11 a.m. followed by lunch and a club meeting. (Members should bring their own lunch).

So that organizers can properly prepare for the day, it is asked that members planning to attend please RSVP to MFGRC club secretary Andy Hall at andyhall58@hotmail.com with how many people and how many dogs.

Osteen is located in southwest Volusia County between Sanford and Port Orange. It’s an easy drive for members in the Orlando area as well as those in the Space Coast and Mt. Dora/Sorrento areas.

P.J. strongly recommends that club members print out the directions to her facility and follow the directions very closely rather than relying on their GPS devices. Here is a link to the directions:

MFGRC Pot Luck Picnic and General Meeting

The Mid-Florida Golden Retriever Club pot luck picnic and general meeting will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Ocala all-breed show.

Golden Retrievers show at 11 a.m. in Ring 8 and the picnic/meeting will be held after Goldens finish. Members should look for the MFGRC banner in the area on the hill overlooking the rings.

All members should bring chairs and something to contribute to the pot luck picnic. Potential items include:

  • Warm and cold dishes
  • Chips
  • Lunch meat
  • Bread for sandwiches
  • Deserts
  • Soda bottles
  • Plastic cups
  • Paper plates
  • Plastic utensils

We have tablecloths but if anyone would like to bring a folding 6 or 8-foot table, please contact andyhall58@hotmail.com.

As an important part of the meeting, the list of nominations for officers and board members for 2019 will be read. After the list is read, any member may make additional nominations. If the proposed candidate is not present at this meeting, the person nominating must provide a written statement from the nominated individual stating acceptance of the nomination. If this occurs, the nominated individual then is considered a candidate.

Also, after the meeting, a club member will give a brief grooming demonstration on a Golden Retriever.

The Ocala show grounds are located at 10205 NW Gainesville Rd, Ocala, FL 34482.

This is usually our club’s largest meeting of the year so we hope to see lots of members there.
